Privacy Policy

Frankie ("we", "us", "our") is operated by Carpe Diem Labs, Inc. We take your family's privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.

1. What we collect

When you use Frankie via WhatsApp, we collect and process:

Account information: Your name, WhatsApp phone number, and preferred language.
Family information: Children's first names, ages, school names, and activity schedules that you provide.
Messages: Text messages, voice messages, images, and documents you send to Frankie. Voice messages are transcribed and the audio is not retained.
Calendar data: If you connect your Google Calendar, we access event titles, dates, and times to help manage your family schedule. We read and write events only on calendars you explicitly grant access to.
Payment information: If you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status but never see or store your card details.

2. How we use your data

To translate and summarise school documents you send us.
To manage your family calendar and activity schedules.
To send you morning check-ins and relevant reminders.
To draft replies to school communications on your behalf.
To improve Frankie's responses to your family over time (e.g. learning your communication style).

We do not use your data to train AI models. Your family's messages and documents are processed in real time and are not used as training data.

3. Third-party services

Frankie uses the following third-party services to operate:

WhatsApp Business API (Meta): Message delivery. Subject to WhatsApp's Privacy Policy.
Anthropic (Claude): AI processing of messages and documents. Data is processed per-request and not retained by Anthropic for training.
OpenAI (Whisper): Voice message transcription only. Audio is processed and not retained.
Google Calendar API: Calendar integration, only when you explicitly connect your account via OAuth. You can disconnect at any time.
Stripe: Payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Supabase: Database hosting (EU region). Data encrypted at rest.
Railway: Application hosting.

4. Data storage and security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted in the EU (Supabase, eu-north-1).
Google Calendar tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage.
All connections use TLS/HTTPS encryption in transit.
Documents are automatically deleted after 90 days.
We use Row-Level Security and restrict database access to the application server only.

5. Data retention

Documents: Automatically deleted after 90 days.
Messages and conversation history: We retain the last 5 message exchanges for context. Older messages are not stored.
Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted upon request.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

Access your personal data.
Correct inaccurate data.
Delete your data — send "delete my data" to Frankie at any time.
Export your data in a portable format.
Object to processing or restrict how we use your data.

7. Children's privacy

Frankie is designed for parents, not children. We collect children's first names and ages only as provided by their parents to deliver the service. We do not collect data directly from children and do not knowingly allow children under 16 to use the service.

8. Google Calendar limited use disclosure

Frankie's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

We only access calendar data necessary to provide the service (reading events, creating events, updating events).
We do not transfer calendar data to third parties except as necessary to provide the service.
We do not use calendar data for advertising or profiling.
Calendar access can be revoked at any time via your Google Account permissions.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you via WhatsApp. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
